Engineered biocompatible nanoparticles for in vivo imaging applications
The paper presents the first reported research to explore the suitability of FePt nanoparticles as MRI contrasts agents. The characterization and formulation of PtFE particle was developed in collaboration with St Andrews University for use in MRI environments under biological conditions. The measurements revealed appropriate T2 relaxation times comparable to iron oxide particle contrast agents. Due to applying ISO 13485 MR testing procedures the first ever CE marked MR safe and visible guide wire was realised in collaboration with EPFlex GmbH, Germany in 2012. The work presented played a major part project in the successful £3.8m FP7 ITN IIIOS.
