This paper describes the development of a simplified, practical computational modelling procedure for conducting assessments of the risk of tunnel-induced settlement damage to masonry buildings. This research is driven by the considerable interest in the effects of urban tunnelling (e.g. Crossrail in London). A collaboration has been established with Arup (contact details available) on the application of these numerical modelling procedures to a previous, instrumented, Arup tunnelling project (King’s Cross redevelopment).
