DPS-3: This paper demonstrates the integration/patterning of optical and semiconductor materials using plasma-laser multi-target co-deposition. This facilitates the manufacture/optimization of optical integrated hybrid circuits, based on nanoscale superlattices, including the integration of random lasing media (WO2011/030157, see DPS-2). In parallel, through an NIHR i4i award (II-fs-0909-13095, PI:Jose, £125k), the use of these materials in a new spectroscopic non-invasive blood glucose monitor was investigated, and the technology patented (WO2013/117941, priority 08/02/2012). Patents WO2011/030157 and WO2013/117941 were licensed to NetScientific, which spun-out GlucoSense Diagnostics Ltd in 2012, with £135k investment between 2012–2013, and a further £750k secured for 2013–2016.
