Additional information

<11>Following our work (CAV'08) that took automatic proofs of pointer structures (“shape analysis”) from hundreds to ten thousand lines of code, this paper is the first taking shape analysis to millions of lines. It is based on a novel form of abductive inference, a concept from philosophy of science. Besides being influential in the research community, this work led to the founding of the SME Monodics, which used the paper's algorithms. Monoidics' assets were acquired by Facebook in 2013. The preliminary version from POPL'09, which should be considered part of this contribution, attracts most citations (>170 on Google Scholar).
