<21>This paper led to an invited TED talk (Barcelona, 2013) and two invited keynote presentations on behavioural change: Pervasive Health (2012) and European Conference on Cognitive Ergonomics (2012) conferences. It demonstrates how ambient public displays, based on theoretically-informed methods, can be designed to change people’s behaviour, by nudging them at the point of decision-making. It presents findings from one of the first longitudinal, in-the-wild studies (6-months), demonstrating a discrepancy between reported and actual logged behaviour. It resulted in a new theorizing of how technologically-based nudging of behaviour works, and people's understanding of it, informing subsequent behavioural change research on sustainability.
