<26> Efficiently and accurately scanning large batches of small objects remains a grand challenge, which we overcame through holistically addressing the entire workflow including human factors. Rapid acquisition of vast numbers of small artefacts is a game changer: previously such objects could not be practically scanned at all. Our new system design was tested for thousands of tiny fresco fragments at an archaelogical site. It is now already employed by three excavations in Greece, Belgium and the Netherlands. Print media world-wide have covered the work, including a full-size double spread in the Philadelpha Inquirer.
