Additional information

IDR-1: This paper, supported by an Agilent Foundation-sponsored PhD studentship (Zhang), applies single-mode Bragg-fibre design to low-loss hollow-core terahertz waveguides, leading to exceptionally low calculated losses (0.2–1.0dB/m). Experimental measurements are now taking place at Leeds utilizing our £500k 1.1THz network analyser, co-funded by Leeds/Agilent in 2012 and forming a joint facility with NPL. Subsequent development of waveguide metrology up to 1.1THz is being undertaken by the five-partner, €1.4M European Metrology Research Programme (Ref:SIB62, 2013–2016), led by NPL (nick.ridler@npl.co.uk), with the European Association of National Metrology Institutes. This is contributing to IEEE metrology standards P1785/P287 (https://standards.ieee.org/develop/project/1785.3.html).
