IDR-3: A new process is reported for the direct laser structuring of microwave and millimetre-wave circuits in low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology. By laser patterning conductors on the unfired tape, a rapid-prototyping approach for LTCC is demonstrated. This system-in-package technology research led to the first international reports of both a 90GHz substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slot antenna and a 180GHz SIW bandpass filter, with invited workshop papers at all three leading microwave conferences (EuMW, APMC, IMS) in 2012. It was a major component of the research portfolio that led to Robertson being elected Fellow of the IEEE in 2012.
