Additional information

These results will help inform and impact coastal engineering design practice in a developing area where information is limited, particularly concerning the severe flip-through type of waves. From a practical point of view, designers of coastal structures are concerned with structural loading of sea walls, which includes the total force, impulse and sometimes the maximum pressure and velocities arising from wave impact, together with the probability of occurrence. The results from this paper will be further beneficial for numerical modellers, in academia and industry, as more advanced numerical descriptions of wave deformation under flip-through wave condition are developed.
