Additional information

Collaborative study to probe the controversial reports of enhanced conductivity at heterostructured interfaces. Highlights the unusual oxidation state of cerium in thin layers (Ce3+ in oxide prepared in air). Correlates TEM structural data with ion diffusion highlighting importance of microstructure and film quality. Cook completed PhD based on this work, now PDRA & secured position at MIT to continue thin film studies. New PhD project and several collaborations resulted (Ohio, Barcelona, NIMS etc). Co-authors given several invited talks as a result at international meetings, e.g. MRS. Led to work on electrodes, secured £1m funding from KAUST to initiate related studies.
