Modeling of permeability and compaction characteristics of soils using evolutionary polynomial regression
In earth constructions such as road embankments, soil must be compacted to a desired density and water content. In other projects such as earth dams and compacted soil liners for containing contaminated wastes, the soil should be compacted for the density as well as the permeability requirements. The permeability of compacted soils also very much depends on the compaction conditions. This paper presents models for predicting permeability, maximum dry density and also optimum moisture content parameters as functions of easily obtainable physical properties of soils. Proposed models are very accurate and robust in predicting permeability and compaction characteristics of soils.
