Cross-sectional imaging of individual layers and buried interfaces of graphene-based heterostructures and superlattices
First transmission electron micrograph images of graphene-based heterostructures and superlattices. A direct correlation is shown between the interface roughness and the electronic characteristics of encapsulated graphene (evidence file: Romani1-1). The output forms part of an internationally collaboration with Geim and Novoselov who have subsequently exploited the heterostructure properties in extremely efficient flexible photovoltaic devices (evidence file: Romani1-2) and investigated their potential for applications in high-frequency and logic devices (evidence file: Romani1-3).
