The vagabond's breakfast

This item develops a complex relationship between experiences of illness and acts of self-narration. The project necessitated research into discourses of illness (from alcoholism, to chronic insomnia and the ‘post-discursive zone’ of surgery), into the literatures of addiction, travel writing and traditions of autobiographical composition. This conceptual matrix was articulated with the recovered material of the author’s own life. At the same time, this literary experiment entailed the development of a narrative style capable of sustaining the conceptual relationships it embodies and creatively conveying challenging issues of memory, trauma and aesthetics.
