A new approach to characterising aspheric surfaces
Significance of output:
Aspheric optics minimise spherical aberrations and thus reduce the number of optical components in a given design, they are critical to a range of applications, mobile phone cameras, contact lenses etc. Aspherics are easily manufactured but difficult and expensive to measure and analyse. The paper solves the analysis problem by providing a solution to the design equation fitting process for a measured surface; allowing a direct comparison to the defined equation. This provides an objective comparison and improves the manufacturing quality control process. This is the first paper to solve the design equation fitting process for aspheric surfaces.
