Double-weighted statement

The 993-page Annotated Catalogue resulted from a ten-year research project starting in 1998 with funding from The Leverhulme Trust. The aim was to produce an inventory of the multiple first editions of Chopin's music held in American and continental libraries, and to analyse the contents in detail. Not only was the material far more abundant than anticipated, but the philological analysis was extremely challenging. Preparation of the Catalogue thus required a decade, given the extent, complexity and inaccessibility of the primary sources on which it is focused. The resultant insights would not have been achieved without such lengthy investigation, however.
