Additional information

This paper reports the first attempt, worldwide, to conduct successful superplastic forming (SPF) tensile tests on Ti-6Al-4V manufactured by selective laser melting (SLM), at the University of Wolverhampton. In SLM unique shapes are realised. The paper, a result of collaboration between Professor Kibble, Dr Stanford and Dr Kim (Kyungpook University, South Korea) offers a materials breakthrough in combining ALM and SPF technology, an idea by Kibble. Subsequently, Kibble was invited and funded by Kyungpook University to present research on SLM technology to research centres in South Korea (September 2010). Further international collaboration is being made.
