Results presented, build on earlier work (DoI:10.1098/rspa.2005.1528), by including a porous model for rock armor. Predicting wave-by-wave overtopping of breakwaters is critical to both the safety of breakwater users and the stability of the breakwater. The results are used in Section 4.6 in “EurOtop” (ISBN:978-3-8042-1064-6), the standard civil engineering design guide in the UK (EA), Netherlands (TAW) and Germany (KFKI). EurOtop has logged over 3600 downloads from 89 countries to date (Tim Pullen, HR Wallingford, email available). This work has also influenced international academic research (DoI:10.4028/www.scientific.net/AMM.226-228.1255).
