Additional information

This paper describes the usefulness of oxidising TiN thin films to generate TiO2 surfaces with very interesting photoelectrical properties. No other authors have undertaken such a thorough chemical, structural and photoelectrical study of oxidised TiN thin films and described how the TiN deposition and oxidation conditions give rise to different oxide phases and nanostructures, hence giving control over the resulting TiO2 phase formation and nanostructure. Under visible light irradiation, high photocurrents were generated from these films and the specific impact of this work is the strong potential use of the films for photocatalysis, photovoltaics and optoelectronic device applications.
