Double-weighted statement

This monograph is the product of 10 years of ethnographic fieldwork on new media and development in South Asia, West Africa and Latin America, comprising five separate research projects, two of which were over two years long. The book was contracted in 2005 and took over six years to write because it required, firstly, analysis, contextualisation and presentation of this complex and diverse material, and secondly because the material is used to engage debates across media studies, science and technology studies, development studies, material culture studies, and sociological debates on globalization.
