Managing food safety and hygiene: governance and regulation as risk management
This book is based upon extensive primary data collection by the author and a research assistant. Qualitative data were collected across a 3 year period. 49 experts from different organizations were interviewed in England and Scotland; followed by a survey of 204 staff from 28 food businesses and 25 in-depth follow-up interviews. This inter-organizational study involved securing access to retail and hospitality businesses which proved very time consuming. The research was largely written up in monograph form with chapters on different topics: understandings of risk; state and non-state governance; business regulation; and policy implications.
