Additional information

This paper describes optical apparatus for providing single point measurement using an interferometer with dispersion added to the reference arm. This method has potential for higher dynamic range than competing technologies such as chromatic confocal point sensing. The work was funded under RC AdG 117228-Surfund and the results have been disseminated at CIRP Annual General Meeting, 2013. Impact is evidenced by a patent application in collaboration with Amatek Taylor Hobson. A current PhD position has been created to continue support IP development. This paper has also led to an EPSRC First Grant application in order to further develop the concept.
