Additional information

Up to 80% of adults suffer from periodontal disease, making it the most common cause of adult tooth loss, but treatable by re-growth of the supporting bone. This paper demonstrates for the first time that the addition of hydroxyapatite particles to a degradable Periodontal Regeneration Membrane accelerates the healing process. Development of this device is currently being pursued through joint collaborative work with Professor Hughes of Guy's Dental Institute, London, involving the development of a prototype membrane.
