English abstract
Aspects of Badiou account of the subject invite interpretation as quasi-voluntarist, in line with political priorities that he adapts from the Jacobin tradition. However, Badiou offers no clear account of the will and his philosophical system makes no specific place for it. He defines a subject (e.g. a political organisation or an artistic movement) as 'induced' by the truth it upholds, or as the 'formalisation' of its implications, 'at the furthest remove from any psychology'. As a result, Badiou's theory appears to rely on a quasi-voluntarist capacity for decision and affirmation, but lacks an account of this capacity itself.
