Transfer between pose and illumination training in face recognition
<26> This facial recognition study assessed whether participants were able to transfer pose training to new illumination conditions or vice versa. Findings suggest that while participants can extend pose training to other conditions, illumination training appears to be confined to the trained condition. This is a novel finding because previous studies only consider transfer within a single type of variation such as pose, and because of the novel experimental methodology which used 3D computer graphics to rapidly generate a wide variation of experimental stimuli under a range of conditions. This has many advantages including improved repeatability and reduced preparation time.
