Additional information

<28>The Journal of Mathematical Neuroscience is the only outlet dedicated to research in which mathematics is the primary tool for elucidating fundamental mechanisms responsible for experimentally observed behaviours in neuroscience. It is open access. This study results from an interdisciplinary collaboration between computational/mathematical neuroscientists and mathematical epidemiologists. It involves the joint supervision (between the Departments of Informatics and Mathematics) of a MRC-funded PhD student and a EPSRC-funded PhD student.
