Wait Until Dark - A solo exhibition of site specific works and works created between 2009-2012
Lothar Götz was commissioned to respond to the site of the Chapter Gallery, Wales resulting in a solo exhibition (3/2/12-1/4/12) of site-specific works and works created 2009-2012.
Götz’s exhibition features a comprehensive body of work that ranges from site-specific wall painting and room-sized spatial installations to framed drawings on paper.
Götz created four new large scale works for the exhibition, including Retreat Black, a sculptural form or ‘room’ that relates directly to ‘real’ architecture, whilst employing the many facets of his wide-ranging research, and offers a more complex viewing experience of the works (drawings) actually contained within it. The room itself can be seen as a three dimensional drawing to house ideas and explore different ways of perception. Many of his drawings represent the floor plans of idealised or imagined dwellings, sometimes for specific people or historical figures, Palladio for example, or sometimes for fictional ones. There is a clear coherence and dialogue across his body of work through its continual referencing and engagement with ideas about architecture and space and its characteristic use of abstract geometric forms, fields and lines of intense colour.
Chapter Gallery describes itself as ‘… an ambitious, multi-artform cultural space based in Cardiff, Wales, that presents and produces international art, performance and film alongside a dynamic social space.’
