Additional information

This is the first ever paper that reports detailed flow measurements within screw compressors whose use in HVAC industries and energy recovery systems are widespread (e.g. screw expanders, refrigerant compression and engine supercharging.) CUL compressor centre with its spine out company Heliex power Ltd are pioneer for the design and modelling of such machines and for the design optimization and validation of their CFD codes they urgently needed detailed flow characteristics within such machines. This work, funded by EPSRC, provided detailed angle-resolved laser flow measurements for them, greatly contributed to the interns’ work and led to many publications.
