Additional information
This work follows from earlier work previously published in this Journal (DOI:10.1243/095440806X78829) that won the 2006 PE publishing award. In the current paper it was found that acoustic emission wave transmission is effected significantly by environments such as fluids and sand. The results can be used to develop enhanced techniques to identify leaks and crack propagation in pipes. The study has led to further PhD work relating to strength of concrete and monitoring of sand produced in the Oil and Gas Industry.
