Additional information

Construction with straw is growing, helped by the environmental benefits and high profile applications. The research for this paper was funded through industry (White Design, Integral Structural Design, Lime Technology, Agrifibre Technology, Centre for Window and Cladding Technology and Eurban) and the Technology Strategy Board (Project H0191G). The research was fundamental to the development of the Modcell pre-fabricated straw bale cladding system used in a number of high-profile applications including on "Grand Designs Live" with Kevin McCloud. The development of the cladding system has continued through TSB and European funding and Modcell is now a successful and rapidly growing company.
