Additional information

CFD validation used unique experimental data on bolt windage in gas turbine engine cavities using real engine conditions. The rig was refined over many years to improve the quality and accuracy of measurements to understand the fundamental physics and provide unparalleled data for the reported simulations. This addresses a major challenge of simulating flow around bolts rotating at high speed within engine cavities, known to present a major challenge to CFD tools, to improve the understanding of the associated phenomena and reveal details that are not possible experimentally, potentially leading to significant reduction of the costly experimental testing.
