Additional information

The first high-cadence X-ray monitoring of a classical nova is presented, showing the UV, hard and super-soft X-ray flux evolution over 200 days. Although these fluxes have different origins, a connection between them is demonstrated. The time of accretion resumption is constrained; a suggestion of a magnetic white dwarf is refuted. This is likely an unrecognised high mass WD recurrent nova. Osborne is the second author; as team leader he obtained the satellite observing time, directed the reduction and analysis, designed most of the figures in the paper, provided much of the discussion section, and had a substantial editorial.
