Engineering and analysis of gripping fabrics for improved ballistic performance
The research was based on a research finding from other researchers that the selvages of narrow fabrics benefited anti-ballistic performance of body armour material. This paper reported various broad novel fabrics with yarn gripping effect to simulate the two fabric selvages in narrow fabrics. Their ballistic performances as well as armour panel design were studied. It was concluded that weave structures with yarn gripping effect in fabric and material continuity of armour panel would lead improved anti-ballistic performance. Sun drafted the paper and the RA of the project; Chen is the project manager. Wells is a scientist from MOD.
