<02> How can customers of cloud services verify that they have been billed correctly? Unlike utilities such as gas or electricity, trusted metering is not available for cloud services. This Journal paper extends and consolidates the conference papers that described for the first time how to construct accounting models for cloud services so that their usage charges become amenable to independent verification by the customers. The paper thus lays the foundation for making accounting models of cloud services transparent as well as open.
