<07> This work, carried out in collaboration with Red Hat Inc. (Little is from Red Hat) enhanced the JBoss application server, one of the most widely used open source middleware platforms, with much needed fault-tolerance capabilities. The strength of the paper is that it provides a complete, well engineered solution to the difficult problem of making a transactional application, hosted on n-tier middleware cluster, highly available by tolerating server and database failures. The approach is modular as it allows the degree of replication of servers and databases to be varied independently.
