Adaptive workload allocation in query processing in autonomous heterogeneous environments
<07> This paper is based on 5 years of research into query processing for dynamically changing environments in collaboration with colleagues at Manchester. The research was awarded 2 grants (e.g. EPSRC EP/C010167/1) with total value £368K. This was the first work showing how to exploit the opportunities for better performance offered by these (e.g. grid and cloud) environments, whilst also dealing with the problems they cause: previous work in query processing had focussed on static rather than dynamic platforms. It laid the foundation for OGSA-DQP platform that was deployed by many e-Science projects worldwide.
