Medieval life: archaeology and the life course
The output is exceptional in scale and scope, representing the vision of an individual researcher and her primary activity over three years. An entirely new theoretical framework was developed and an unusually broad range of data was collected and analysed. The research is highly interdisciplinary, drawing on medieval source material from history, medical history, art history, costume history and literature. The scope is unique in later medieval archaeology, including osteology, textiles, dress accessories, domestic and religious material culture, housing, churches and burials. This research required a major investment of time and a significant shift from the author’s previous expertise.
