Significance of output:

The work presented will inform the design of the first small tidal turbine arrays to be installed before 2020. Layout of devices is critical to maximize power production; once they are installed they cannot be moved! The technology (akin to underwater wind) has the potential to provide a significant proportion of the world’s electricity needs (est. 60GW). Results were used in to validate and development a commercial ‘industry standard’ numerical tool (R.Rawlinson-smith@garradhassan.com) that will simulate individual device and whole array performance.
