Significance of output:

Large amplitude unsteady fluctuations associated with shock waves can cause major problems for high speed engine intakes. This work on the topic was carried out as part of the EU FP7 project UFAST which included comparisons of numerical simulations with experiments at IUSTI in Marseilles and ITAM in Novosibirsk (doi 10.1007/978-3-642-03004-8). The 2011 Osborne Reynolds prize was awarded based a presentation of this work.
