Double-weighted statement

Theoria, the practice of sending sacred delegates to national sanctuaries, to participate in festivals, to consult oracles or to make offerings, was a crucial part of Greek religious culture. The book is the first complete study of the subject, tracing its development from the Greek Archaic Period to the Roman Empire, with a broad geographical focus ranging from Rome to Jerusalem and from the Crimea to Alexandria. The nature of this material, scattered in publications with limited circulation, and the almost infinite background-related implications of every item of evidence made the completion of this project particularly challenging and time-consuming.
