Harvesting the sea: the exploitation of marine resources in the Roman Mediterranean
The book discusses the range of marine resources exploited in Roman time, their economic importance for local/regional economies, and modes of organization of production. Such a study required a Mediterranean-wide coverage and the collection and analysis of a substantial body of material: archaeological data scattered in excavation reports and journal publications with limited circulation, hence difficult to access; epigraphic, legal, and literary sources, as well as modern ethnographic material. The analysis and interpretation of this varied set of primary sources required the deployment of different research skills.
