<02>Stabilising the wheelchair in an upright position can assist the safe use of wheelchairs by persons with disability and the growing number of elderly persons. The paper results from collaborative research with Dr Ahmed, International Islamic University, Malaysia (salmiah@iium.edu.my) and Dr Tokhi, University of Sheffield, England (O.tokhi@sheffield.ac.uk) funded by the Malaysian government. The work contributed to the IEEE conference presentation (ISIEA, October 2010, Malaysia), a book chapter (ISBN 979-953-307-872-3, InTech Press) and a research monograph “Intelligent Control” by Nazmul Siddique (ISBN 978-3-319-02134-8) published by Springer in November 2013.
