This is an outcome from the long-term (since late 1990s) collaboration, where Warwick adds extra theoretical and metrological inputs to Tianjin’s internationally recognised robotics expertise (see the paper for recent grant support). It is intended to simplify design and analysis tasks by providing theoretical underpinning for a new mathematical formulation of machine kinematics directly applicable to many sub-subsystems. Industrial take up cannot yet be judged, but it has led directly to three other journal papers (JMR 3 011013, 2011; JMR 3 021013, 2011; MMT in review).
