Additional information

Metal foams show good weight-specific stiffness and strength, but more complex properties like creep are rarely investigated. Analytical models to describe creep behaviour have been produced, but validation suffered from lack of data. A comprehensive systematic dataset for tensile creep of alloy foams under different conditions that would give rise to a range of behaviours was created for the first time. The data were used to assess models, and validate a model we previously proposed. The method has since been taken up by international research groups on high temperature metal foams (e.g. Northwestern University, dunand@northwestern.edu).
