Additional information

This is the first of three volumes that Fowler edited arising from the AHRC-funded research project “The Pronunciamiento in Independent Mexico, 1821-1876” (http://arts.st-andrews.ac.uk/pronunciamientos/). It is about the origins, nature, and dynamics of this practice. Fowler brought together world-renowned scholars and early career researchers, edited their essays, assisted with the translation of some of the Spanish contributions and provided a “Chronology” that refers the reader to the relevant chapters in the volume. The book includes two chapters by Fowler: his introductory essay on the pronunciamiento and its origins, and a study that deploys a sociological understanding of the phenomenon.
