English abstract

This monograph fills a research gap, proposing a theoretical foundation for poverty alleviation with practical motivations. It is a ‘single-thesis’ monograph working with the claim that the key to understanding poverty and poverty alleviation is the concept of interiority. The book explores the inner dimension of economics and politics using the idea of identity economics. It provides a normative theory developing a concept of well-functioning societies based on the fundamental concepts of ‘self respect’ and ‘cohesive promises’. The evils of poverty, argues the book, consist in the erosion of these major moral goods.
