Additional information

The first demonstration of promoting osteogenesis from human mesenchymal stem cells without the use of chemical cocktails or expensive engineering techniques. Huge potential for treatment of diseases (e.g. osteoporosis, "fat of the bones") and regenerative processes (e.g. bone bioreactor). Reid was interviewed by BBC Scotland news, BBC World Service, and covered by numerous medical magazines across the globe. Invited talk at British Science Festival (Sept, 2013) to explain the link between gravitational waves and this stem cell breakthrough. STFC Futures Studentship (£63k) awarded October 2013 and equipment loaned (£5k, in kind) from Linn Products Ltd to expand the research program.
