This paper is an extension of earlier work reported in chapter 10 of the monograph titled’ Nanocomposite thin films and coatings’, published by Imperial College press, ISBN-10 1-86094-784-0. A feature article about this and related work by the author appeared in Nexxus news, Scotland, issue 17, spring 2008. This paper was part of the submissions towards the successful SUPA PALS grant bid by UWS. An invited presentation was given in Brandeis University, Massachusetts, USA in relation to this and related papers. Reviews are now conducted by the author for internationally leading journals on articles involving nitrogen doping of biomedical coatings.
