The model proposed in this manuscript was later successfully applied to another organic contaminant group, i.e. chlorinated hydrocarbons, by Neumann et al. (Environ. Sci. Technol., 2009, (43)11: 4082-4089), demonstrating the general validity of the conceptual model for contaminant fate assessment.
