Abed (principal supervisor Mills) won the 2012 Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society (RSPSoc) Student Award for Best PhD Thesis, from which this manuscript originated. Newcastle’s laser scanning research programme is supported by Ordnance Survey, which included placement of Research Fellow Dr Sarah Smith-Voysey in Mills' team from 2006 to 2012, and has resulted in additional lidar outputs (e.g. ISPRS-J.
