Additional information

The research was carried out as part of the EPSRC funded ‘DISTILLATE’ Project, with match funding from the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive. The paper describes the development of a variety of techniques that were designed to explore the wide range of accessibility needs of disadvantaged groups in an ex-coalmining area in South Yorkshire, and to identify different ways in which these problems might be addressed by a variety of agencies. The method brought together local residents and service providers and led to innovative initiatives. It has been adopted as a template for use in other parts of South Yorkshire.
